The most authentic
A-11 re-edition
The goal of the project was to create the most authentic A-11 re-edition on the market today. This meant striking a balance between authentic materials & modern ones. For the glass, we could have gone for a sturdier, newer Sapphire Glass but that would have seriously hurt the authentic “feel” of the Type 44. Instead, we used a double domed Acrylic Glass just like the originals. Now acrylic glass may be less scratch resistant than sapphire but when it does scratch, an easy polish will do the trick to bring it back to new. Also, acrylic does not shatter and, has a reduce shine to it which increases overall durability & visbility relative to sapphire. Seems that some things were better before…
Just like they used to make them
THE PROJECT
The A-11 Type 1944 is our direct attempt at reviving the legendary tool watch of WW2. The project started when we managed to buy an original 1944 Waltham A-11 online where we sent it to get disassembled and studied by our in-house designer. Each component was hand drawn as we studied the construction, choice of material and choice of fonts that were used back then. Acrylic glass, manual wind movement, small diameter, coin edged bezel. We decided to keep the integral package bringing only upgrades that are expected of 21st century watches. Our only major change from the original was switching from a 31.5 mm case to both a 32mm & 38mm case size. 32mm for those that want the “real thing” and 38mm for those that want a modernized version of the A-11.

Swiss Power,
American Quality
We wanted the A-11 Type 44 to be top of the class in terms of power and authentic. For that, we used a Swiss Made modified Soprod P024 movement. Soprod actually specially modified their P024 just for us by removing the “Automatic” part of the movement rendering it a manual wind movement. Therefore, the Type 44 has a one-of-a-kind manual movement that combines swiss precision with the original manual wind experience the soldiers would have had. Additionally, the Soprod P024 does feature a hack function just like the A-11 spec required. All assembly & quality will take place in our assembly line in Oklahoma, USA.
Upgraded reliability
Original A-11s were made to be cheap and easy watches to use. They fulfilled those two roles perfectly but, were known to not be the most rugged & reliable watches. We’ve decided to bring in a raft of “modern” upgrades to our Type 44 to allow it to hold up to the rigors of daily use. We gave our Type 44 a 10ATM (330ft) Water Resistance rating & a high-grade stainless steel case so that it can follow you on the field no matter the circumstance. Originals usually had no water-resistance & used plated brasse for the case as part of an effort to bring down cost. We also upgraded the low-light visbility (which was non-existent on originals) by using SuperLuminova on our hands & indexes.
As authentic as you want
The A-11 Type 44 started out as our attempt at pushing the authenticity of an A-11 re-edition to the maximum. But not everyone wants the exact replica & for that reason we’ve developed variations that bring the Type 44 to the “modern” age. For those that want to highlight the age of the design, we’ve created a “faux patina” version with yellowed indexes to mimic the age-induced discoloration of the original A-11s. For those that feel that 32mm is a bit too small for their wrists, we’ve gone and developed a 38mm version bringing the A-11 to a contemporary size. The Type 44 will be as authentic as you want.

A Mission Critical
Equipment
Time keeping has always been absolutely critical for coordination of troops on a battlefield. The US Military recognized this need and developed in 1942 the A-11 specification to equip it soldiers with a solid & precise timepiece. Three major US watchmakers produced this specification throughout the war: Hamilton, Waltham & Elgin with variation on case & dial design but an overall identical core spec sheet. With over 100,000+ watches produced, they ended up equipping the rest of the Allied countries thanks to their reliability & precision.
